A Winter Wedding in Daylesford.
tom and alexandra are both introverts so a micro wedding was the perfect choice for them.
It was a chilly August day for Alexandra and Tom’s little wedding in Daylesford. Alexandra hails from Canada so she loves the cold. It was always going to be a wintery wedding. They booked a stunningly beautiful air BnB for the occasion and hired good mate Dave Le Page to take photos. A perfect choice for them- and a very good friend to have haha.
Tom is a straight edge vegan, as were many of their guests. For a gathering that looked decidedly rock n roll with all the tattoos about- it was a quiet and romantic celebration with just 28 guests. I teased them in the lead up saying ‘so there’s no booze and the food is all vegan?- sounds like a ripper of a party’ Haha! They took it well and on the day I was forced to eat my words, along with the DELISH (vegan) food I consumed. I was even poured a glass of champs by Tom’s Dad.
These two are both introverts and a small wedding was perfect for them. Less anxiety, less people to ‘entertain’ and get around to and an earlier 1pm start, meaning there was no into the night rowdiness. They were married, then shared a beautiful lunch with their guests. In fact, I think the evening was spent in the claw foot bath with some hard core tunes.
Alex’s dog Sterling was the ring bearer and the goodest boy. Their ceremony was kooky and intimate, tailored to who they are. Their vows were beautifully emotive and the moody images taken by Dave are absolutely magic.
Please enjoy Tom and Alexandra’s wedding tips below.
1. What was the best decision you made?
Choosing the right celebrant. I truly believe this can make or break the day. Not only were our family and friends fully engaged, but they all commented on how wonderful the ceremony was. Not your typical standard one but a silly, fun, lovely one. And that's who we are; silly and fun.
2. Did anything not go to plan/ what would you do differently?
Almost everything went to plan except some minor issues (Tom left his wedding shoes at home, 2 hours from the venue). There's nothing else I would've done differently, though. It was honestly the perfect day.
3. What was your fave part of the day?
Seeing all my friends and family enjoying themselves. Seeing Nat and my husband at the "altar" and having them both by my side. Walking down the aisle to 70's music. Feeling all the love and warmth radiating from everyone. A micro-wedding was the best choice.
4. In a few words- what advice would you give couples planning their wedding now?
Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Choose the right celebrant to suit your needs and don't go for the cheapest one. Go for the one you vibe with the best. Be wary of bridal alterations because they take advantage of brides, big time. Know your family and friends are there for you and that it's YOUR day. I spent too much time worrying about pleasing everyone else, that I didn't always allow myself to be present in the moment. Thankfully Nat eased a lot of my worries and the day worked out like a charm.
