Good time Noisy Ritual Wedding

Kirstie and Mat’s Brunswick Wedding

It started with cake and bubbles and finished with a riotous dance floor. This is how you make a wedding #authentic.

Kirstie and Mat are hardcore Northside foodies and wine lovers. Every decision they made for their wedding was carefully considered. It meant their wedding was so personal and authentic. They tipped tradition completely on its head. The wedding vendor crew they assembled was epic, ensuring they had a smooth ride and an awesome day.

They answered my post wedding questions below. Enjoy!

“Find vendors you gel with and see yourself having fun with”

1. What was the best decision you made?

Apart from serving our cake on arrival, using Instagram as a research tool!

It sounds weird, but it was so much more helpful than any of the other sources we tried out, like an expo we went to. We could see and hear the vibes of other people's weddings, get a sense of the vendor lists that they used to create those vibes and get a real feeling for what we liked and what wasn't us.

It gave us so much more confidence to approach vendors we were pretty sure we were going to gel with, and also a good insight into other vendors who worked with similar couples to us.

2. Did anything not go to plan/ what would you do differently?

There were definitely things that didn't go to plan! We forgot to give the rings to Nat before the ceremony, our speeches didn't run to the schedule we had planned, it was cloudy when we went to do our sunset photos and our polaroid photo book was hijacked by our 5 year old niece. I'm sure there's lots of other things, too.

But, none of it mattered. Some of them turned into golden funny moments - like having to pause the start of the ceremony so Mat could run into the cold store room where our bags were to grab the rings. Our sunset photos look beautiful and moody. The reason our speeches ran late was because everyone was having such a good time. We have about 70 polaroid selfie or low-angle shots from our 5 year old niece.

On the day everything moved so fast that we didn't really have time to worry. Or, things we thought mattered when we were planning, didn't. They're all just great memories of the day.

3. What was your fave part of the day?

The moment we stood up to give our speeches and seeing all of our favourite people in the world, together in one room. It really was breathtaking.

4. In a few words- what advice would you give couples planning their wedding now?

Find vendors that you gel and can see yourself having fun with. Don't be afraid to say no if you don't feel like they're quite right for you (they might feel the same way!).

Also, there is no such thing as too much wedding cake research. You won't regret it.
