Josh and Jules' Geetroit Party Wedding

A total riot of colour, sparkle, neons, tunes, free flowing bubbles and a biiiig rowdy crowd

I met Josh and Jules at another wedding when they chased me down after the ceremony and asked for a biz card. They weren’t even engaged yet haha! I absolutely loved working with them and now class them as my friends. I was legitimately depressed when their wedding was over!

Theirs was a massive party vibe knees up at The Warehouse in Geelong. A total riot of colour, sparkle, neons, tunes, free flowing bubbles and a biiiig rowdy crowd. They threw everything at this wedding and it was a proper big day out for guests.

From oysters to a lounge chill space to a pink glitter runway aisle to confetti cannons and a Mr Whippy van. Their ceremony was a riotous good time with a loosey goosey wedding party and full licence to roast them hard to open it up. People were cheering and laughing as I told J + J’s awesome story of meeting and reuniting at Falls Festival because of a doof stick.

They danced back up the aisle married then joined the crowd for a big night on the d floor. A recovery sesh took place the next day. A bloody good time had for all.

Jules answered my big four questions below:

1.       What was the best decision you made?

Can we please have two?

Firstly, we really wanted to create a party vibe, rather than have the day/night feel like a traditional wedding.  We started with The Warehouse as a blank canvas, but didn’t really want to entertain the whole “DIY” route as we each wanted to relax with our mates and family as we got ready on the day.  One of the best decisions we therefore made was to get Good Day Club involved to develop our wedding concept and styling, and then bring it to life on the day.

Kate and her team were truly phenomenal to work with, and one of the big reasons our day was such a success.  They took so much time getting to know us and the vision for the day, and came up with a concept (Neon Jungle) which was so much more than we could have ever imagined, but so perfectly “us”.  They worked tirelessly in the lead up and on the day, but always had a smile on their faces, offering words of wisdom to make us feel at ease.  When Jules had a sneak peek at the venue before the guests arrived, she was in tears of joy!

Secondly, choosing Nat Sproal to marry us!  Nat was another standout throughout the entire wedding journey.  She took so much time to get to know us and our personal story, which was so evident come the ceremony.  It was honestly like having a mate you have known for years up there by your side, making you and the guests laugh and cry, offering a hand on the shoulder when it was needed, getting the rowdy guests in line when it was needed, and starting the day off with a massive BANG.

Our guests gushed over Nat, as most of them had never seen a ceremony quite like hers before.  She’s one in a million, and we feel truly lucky to have had her as part of our day.  We genuinely couldn’t have imagined it without her.

2.       Did anything not go to plan / what would you do differently?

The day was genuinely next to perfect, so we feel very lucky!  (Particularly in the current climate…)  The only thing that didn’t go 100% to plan was the timing of our speeches.  We had initially decided to knock out the Father of the Groom, Father of the Bride, Best Man and Maid of Honour speeches straight up at the reception, head off for some golden hour photos, then come back and round out the formalities with the Groom and Bride’s speeches.

As we were running approx. 15-20 mins behind schedule, we opted to head out for golden hour photos after the two dads’ speeches, then come back together for the remaining four.  By the time we got to the remaining speeches, guests were pretty jolly and rowdy, and being a cocktail wedding, they were a little tricky to control!  If we had our time again, we would have stuck to the original timing…  But hey, it’s a very small “coulda, shoulda, woulda” so we are pretty bloody chuffed!

3.       What was your fave part of the day?

Our favourite moment from the day/night was when a few of our mates spontaneously picked us up and put us on their shoulders during “Mr Brightside” by the Killers.  All formalities were now done and dusted,  Jules had changed into a little iridescent white sequined mini with white Adidas kicks, and Josh had his jacket off and a very loose shoulder.  We both had a Prosesso in hand and met in the middle of the dancefloor in front of the “’Til Death” neon sign which made for awesome photos (and made us feel like absolute rock stars!)

4.       In a few words- what advice would you give couples planning their wedding now?

The best advice we received when we began our wedding planning was to choose 3 things that were the most important to us, and funnel our time, energy and money into those things.  Everything else is secondary.

We would also say, try to be as decisive as possible!  Get an idea and stick to it!  With the likes of Instagram, Pinterest, etc. there are so many (almost too many) options out there, with so much potential to get overwhelmed.  Don’t overthink it and compare too many options.  You’ll never get anywhere if you do!

Lastly, surround yourselves with suppliers/vendors who are LEGENDS and who you really click with!  Every part of the wedding should be enjoyable, so the lead up is just as important as the big day!  If you love the people you are working with, the whole journey is magical!
