Andrew and Rachel's Relaxed Mitchelton Wedding

Their wedding was a beautiful triumph. A magic day of blue skies and sunshine!

Rach and Andrew are one of my Covid enduring couples who postponed their OG date from back in May 2020 to December the 11th.

Their initial plan was for 180 guests and a big relaxed but elegant knees up. With the constantly undulating wave of the pandemic their guest numbers changed multiple times. I recall in November, totally battle-weary, Rach told me they were going ahead, even as an elopement. They were over it.

Then we caught a break- at the end of a very f#cking long lockdown we came out the other side and the world settled back on its axis a bit for Victorians. So once again their guest list grew and all of a sudden they needed menus and signage etc. It was a mad scramble but they did it and their wedding was a beautiful triumph. A magic day of blue skies and sunshine, live music, welcome drinks and 70 guests.

Their ceremony was fun, funny (I laughed out loud as I presented it a few times) and full of heart. The flipside of Covid neg is that guests have been so up for the party and really give their best to the ceremony and the dancefloor later. After 111 days of lockdown everyone is literally GAGGING to get out and get amongst it and the energy is awesome.

Rach kindly shared her wedding insights below:

What was the best decision you made?

We were so happy with everything. We focused on the things that mattered to us – good music, drinks and food! We also loved our venue, it was the only one we looked at and knew it suited us perfectly. Due to COVID we also had to constantly change our guest list. We ended up having 70 people, which was a big change from the original 180. I loved that it was smaller and more intimate, we got to spend time with our most favourite people and absorb every moment.

Did anything not go to plan/ what would you do differently?

We didn’t practice a wedding dance or really have a clear vision of where our photos needed to be taken. It all happens so quickly so in hindsight I wish we thought about this a bit more. But that being said, we nailed our first dance and our photos are amazing so doesn’t really matter in the end!

What was your fave part of the day?

We LOVED our ceremony, Nat took us and guests on the best ride of emotions. We LOVED spending time with all our best people, drinking and dancing. Our speeches were short and sweet and captured everything about Andrew and I. I really enjoyed taking a moment with Andrew away from the reception. We went and got some nice pictures and were just able to spend some time together.

In a few words- what advice would you give couples planning their wedding now?

    1. Make the guest list work for you. We are so glad we had a smaller wedding and were really able to spend quality time with all our guests!

    2. Drinks and music are key, before, during and all night long.

    3. Soak up every minute of the day and night, everyone told me it goes quickly and it REALLLY does.

    4. Have something the next day, we loved that our special day wasn’t just a day, it was a whole weekend away with everyone we loved.
